If you do any level of "shopping around" it seems like wedding photographers price their packages anywhere from 8 bucks to 8 thousand bucks. But why is that? What are you actually getting for your money?
Packages are essentially pre-arranged items like length of coverage on wedding day, number of images you can expect to receive, how and when you will receive your images, plus individual add-on's like an engagement shoot, a wedding album, printed photos or a second photographer.
Prices are also determined by geographical location, demand for the photographer's services and even time of year of your event.
The main thing to look for is what is actually included in the wedding photography package price. Some photographers only offer low-resolution digital images in an online gallery. Some advertise a low package price and then attempt an upsell on every add-on imaginable.
how do you create and price your wedding photography packages?
I try to keep pricing easy to understand and transparent. All of my packages include:
- An engagement session. This is so important so we can learn how to work together in a relaxed setting prior to your wedding event.
- Pre-wedding consultations. We will meet either in person or virtually a few times leading up to your wedding so you can keep me in the loop on any updates and I have a clear understanding of your expectations of me.
- An heirloom quality album. I insist that all of my couples have a tangible piece of art after their wedding. This is usually the first heirloom piece that a newly married couple will procure together, and a professionally designed and printed album will be able to be passed down for generations.
- Online album with couple's right to download high resolution images and use them at their leisure for personal (not commercial) use. A convenient online ordering system is also available for any photos you might wish to have printed.
- Taxes included in the price. I don't do gimmicky things like print credits. This factors into the prices I have chosen to set for my services.
- The only add-on's I would offer are a second photographer (by request) or additional time at the end of the reception, should you choose to extend it.

I would always recommend a consultation with a photographer you may want to work with. You need to know if you're a good fit for each other. Should you choose to proceed, make sure you understand what is included in a photographer's wedding package.
- How much coverage do we get?
- When will we get our pictures and how are they delivered?
- How many images can we expect?
- If an album isn't included, how much will it be to add one?
- Can we get parent albums?
- Is the engagement shoot included, or does it cost extra?
